The role of nursing informatics is significant in the fast-evolving healthcare sector with an increasing population and diverse health challenges. The critical role of informaticists is becoming a center of interest for health organizations due to better data collection, storage, and retrieval. The use of modern technology has made informaticists work better for quality care delivery. For instance, the use of wireless technologies is making healthcare function seamless and even enabling better communication among the care providers and the patients (Mosier, 2019). Thus, the impact of nursing informatics on patients’ outcomes and patient care efficiencies can be made more efficient using modern wireless technologies.
The selected project is the use of Integrated Patient Portals (IPP) in improving patient outcomes. An integrated patient portal is an electronic tool that helps patients to interact with care providers concerning their health issues. Through the portal, patients have an opportunity to directly communicate and share important information with care providers (Carini et al., 2021) The impact of nursing informatics on patient outcomes and patient care efficiencies. Unlike electronic medical records (EMRs) integrated patient portals are more specific in offering a number of services to patients. For instance, this tool helps in the exchange of messages between patients and care providers, appointment scheduling, payment facilitation, and fast renewal of medical prescriptions for patients with chronic illnesses (Kildea et al., 2019). The impact of integrated patient portals is unmatched in the modern healthcare setting though it is still underused. The project will be an interesting one and the patients will only need to possess smartphones, tablets, or computers that can connect to the internet (Dendere et al., 2019). They will be able to access the portals after registration and coming up with their username and passwords. The systems will be easy to access such that even the less educated will be able to register and use the portals bearing its simple language and patient-centered interface. Additionally, older people who may have challenges in using the portals can seek assistance from close family members for effective care.
The project will be important to several stakeholders who will, directly and indirectly, become involved in its implementation. An important stakeholder in the project will be the patients who are the client in the healthcare organizations (Mosier, 2019). The project is known as the ‘patient portal’ owing to the importance of patients in the ensure project. The clinical team is an important stakeholder in the project because they are directly involved in ensuring patients’ case is assessed, diagnosed, and managed through the portals. For instance, community health workers are an essential part of the project because they will be directly in touch with patients in making follow-ups. The government will also be an important stakeholder in coming up with laws that help protect digital health for better service delivery (Sipes, 2016). Information technologists and researchers will be critical stakeholders in helping feed data and improve the system and also coordinate with informaticists about streamlining the patients’ portals.
The integrated patient portal can be used in enhancing patient outcomes and efficiencies. For instance, patients access their personal health information through the portal and remain in touch with the providers’ services 24 hours a day. The patients do not have to wait for official office hours to have their health issues resolved (Han et al., 2019). They can directly access their portals and meet doctors and nurses for swift services. Also, through the portal, the patients can access their personal health information from every provider from one platform. For instance, patients with mental health issues have a team of care providers who can respond and help specific patients with their diverse needs through the portal. The patients do not spend a lot of time and money in finding specialists in their physical office unless for emergency cases. Providers will also be posting reminders and results in the portal for patients and this will help in follow-up and better outcomes. Also, the different care providers are able to interact and exchange ideas on diverse treatments prescribed to patients for better decision-making. This can lead to improved care and efficient management of therapies and medicines (Kildea et al., 2019). Additionally, patients are able to receive alerts and reminders through emails and short messages when their portals are linked to emails and phone numbers.
Important technologies to be used in this project include both hardware and software. The hardware features of the project will include digital gadgets such as smartphones, computers, and tablets where digital portals can be accessed. On the other hand, there will be software features like internet that will enable these gadgets to send or retrieve information essential for updating patients’ records. The AI-powered chatbots will be included in the portal for helping patients locate some information faster for effective service delivery (Han et al., 2019). The software will be able to function in enabling patients to work closely with medical teams for better outcomes. The system will be able to receive specific patients’ data from the existing EMR or the EHR systems. Additionally, the software will be crucial in helping patients while billing, evaluating health information, making payments, evaluating HIPAA-protected communication, and also while filling the clinical visits forms (Ng, 2018) The impact of nursing informatics on patient outcomes and patient care efficiencies.
For successful project implementation, there is a need to incorporate as many healthcare providers into this project. This will enhance better results and better patient outcomes and feedback (Mosier, 2019). The success of every project is barely due to the power of the project team.
A nurse leader will be the head of the project. The nursing leader will collaborate with all other care providers into making a cohesive team. Their main role will be coordination.
Nursing informatics will be an important team player in this project. They will lead the IT section in training care providers about the uses of the patient portal. The informaticist will be on the frontline in evaluating the workability of the projects and the identifying errors that may occur (Sipes, 2016).
Physiatrist nurses will be an important part of the project. Dealing with patients with mental health issues will require better services from the psychiatrist nurses. They will assist in offering treatment methods and therapies to the patients (McGonigle, 2022).
IT experts will be available to the team in making sure the objectives of the project connect well with the portals. For instance, the portal should be easy to use and user-friendly (Dendere et al., 2019). Additionally, researchers will be part of the team for regular studies about the significance of the project from the beginning to the end.

The patients are the beneficiaries of the project as they will be able to readily interact with care teams faster and consultation and management of their health cases will be done professionally and fast.
