Academic and Professional Integrity

Part 1

Integrity in academics is essential as it promotes transparency, originality, and honesty in academics and writing. Therefore, to ensure academic integrity, it is important to avoid plagiarism when writing and stealing another author’s work (Holden et al., 2021). This can be achieved by always acknowledging original authors’ works by correctly citing and referencing the work when writing (Fazilatfar et al., 2018). This, therefore, means that honesty during writing ensures academic integrity.

Professional practices and scholarly ethics are related because an individual possessing strong scholarly ethics will transfer the skills into professional practice and hence ensure high standard professional practices. Scholarly ethics are associated with innovativeness, creativity, and high confidence levels which in turn ensure excellent professional practice (Guerrero-Dib et al., 2020). Safe Assign and Grammarly are some types of software used to ensure integrity in writing by ensuring that the writings are free of grammatical errors and without any plagiarism. Therefore, these two tools facilitate academic integrity.

Strategies for Maintaining Integrity of Work

During learning, I will maintain the integrity of work by always avoiding plagiarism through proper paraphrasing, proper paraphrasing, and acknowledging original authors whenever I borrow their ideas from scholarly sources. I also intend to research comprehensively and read widely for my coursework and exams. I intend to research academic materials in the university, online sources, and peer-reviewed journal articles.

In my professional work as a nurse, I intend to maintain the integrity by always participating in continuous development learning opportunities to further improve my knowledge, skills, and expertise. I also plan to adhere to the set procedures, regulations, and policies during practice.

Some of the resources and approaches useful as a student and professional include library materials, peer-reviewed journals, and the latest technology to facilitate learning (Zalat et al., 2021). Additionally, I intend to participate in quality improvement projects and use the latest evidence to inform practice as well as adhere to the established nursing professional guidelines.
